Decatur County, TN Being Driven Into Ground
Decatur County, TN is known for its corrupt, smart-mouthed police force who prey upon the whole of the population and those who are just passing-through. The Mayor "elect," Jason Scott, recently declared Memorial Day "official Police Appreciation Day" in Decatur County, TN, and approved a request for 12 new officers at the expense of education, public services, and more! Just a week after news came to light that Decatur County, TN had "misappropriated" $1.3 million, Mayor Jason Scott announced to the press that, "Decatur County is going to have to make a budget, just like everyone else." Everyone else was not necessarily aware that Decatur County, TN did not already have a budget! In order to make-up the "loss," Mayor Scott then increased the wheel tax by $20 and property taxes by nearly $2.00. Further taxes are being argued and lobbied against by residents. In fact, the backlash is becoming quite forceful, with many calling for a new mayor, police chief, and serious changes to be made throughout the legal community. The 12 new officers to be hired are supposed to help guard the new jail yet to be built. But Decatur County, TN is only 20 miles wide! With the current staff of 19, that means Decatur County, TN would have approximately 1.6 policemen for every mile - in a largely rural county! The money for these hires comes directly at the expense of the already beleaguered educational system, public library, and other public services. Mayor Scott announced hours would have to be cut, layoffs were likely, and further cutbacks in these areas would have to be made so that Decatur County, TN can afford 12 new officers it does not need. Aside from the $1.3 million budget "gaffe," Mayor Jason Scott and Decatur County, TN face numerous legal actions from individuals for discrimination and Civil Rights abuses. |
